Rumble King played a great show at a private event on saturday night….and I go to Orlando to play at The House of Blues with Blues Train this weekend. I already have my eye on some of the area rollercoasters….great music and great rides…can’t wait.
I did two really different and very cool sessions wednesday and friday. John Ramey had me play on “Mary” one of my favorite songs we do live, and Ted Perlman brought me in on a country session he is Producing. Needless to say, doing two sessions with two of my favorite Musicians in a few days made quite a nice end to my week. I appreciate them both, and am honored to be a part of what they do.
I just appeared on a wonderful program on WDAY in Fargo ND with Christopher Gabriel. He is an amazingly well rounded and knowledgeable guy with a great show! You can stream it online like I do from here in LA!

Played another solid gig with Rex Merriweather’s big band tonight. We play every 2nd and 4th monday and the band is really coming into it’s own. I have the pleasure of playing with some of LA’s finest Musicians, and to have my friend Al Person on Percussion as well! It is just a little too much fun sometimes!
I am just back from Canada where I did a duel clinic with Charlie Crowe of Nashville songwriting and Brooks&Dunn fame. It was a great few days of teaching and music making, and Charlie was just such a blast to work with. Levi Kreis’ had the number ONE video at MTV.com this week and I played Drums on it. Levi is currently on Broadway, and I look forward to more gigs with him in the near future.
Hi all-
Well I have been very busy playing here in LA doing some really enjoyable gigs. This week I will part of the high energy sound of Rex Merriweather’s “This Ain’t Your Daddy’s Big Band” and then Charlie Crowe and I will be heading to Winnipeg Canada. We will be doing a duel clinic at Long&McQuade as well as some school visits and ’suprise’ local late night playing too. Charlie is such a good dude and Musician, I feel so Blessed to be playing and teaching with him this week.
I just finished doing a video shoot tonight, and it went really well. It was such a treat to be in a great room with everyone doing their job at a high level. I will finish mixing Christine Stevens new CD this week, and playing a Jazz gig with Michael Camacho…a wonderful singer! I am truly Blessed to live and work in LA.
2010 has taken off SO fast for me! I have been making some great music and I am co producing a CD that I am very proud of. Just this week I have played 2 great shows with Rumble King, done pre production for a video shoot and recorded with John Ramey. I am a truly Blessed person, and I am enjoying the journey.
As we get ready to wind the clocks back an hour again….I am winding back over 2009…and I have to say it is the best year I have had in LA. I have been Blessed with so many wonderful music making experiences and the fun and sun that is LA. I still have several wonderful things on the books for the rest of the year….but it is nice to reflect on such a great year here in paradise.
So with twitter and all the other online information, I realize I haven’t updated the blog here at Slammin Sammy K in a while. 2009 has been an interesting journey full of challenge and triumph, and it isn’t slowing down now. I have played some great gigs this year, Amy Cook’s movie opened with me playing….well…ME! I have ridden some great roller coasters, played golf with friends, and enjoyed Drumming as much as I ever have. Levi Kreis and Travis Howard have been active playing and recording, and I have enjoyed making music with those guys. I taught at the International Music Camp and the Miami Valley Jazz Camp, and had 41 wonderful students between the two. I had a great time teaching and learning during those weeks, and I look forward to continuing to teach there in the future.
I have a busy weekend ahead again….so time to run for now.
